Jim Bush, otherwise known as the THE BUSHMAN has been living and breathing motorcycles since the age of 14. The early years in New Zealand up to 1984 was the "British Only" period, where Triumph and Norton adorned the stable - most heavily modified for performance and handling. From 1994 after a move to Canada, the passion for all things motorcycle was rekindled with a TRIUMPH T140 (affectionaltely known as "Knobby") which lead to broad expansion of taste into new marque's - where his private collection has grown to include famous and exotic names such as MV Agusta, Laverda and Ducati, along with a more a utility ride the BMW R1200GSA
For a number of years JB CYCLE RESTORATION existed as a small craftsman based operation specializing in complete restorations, repairs of cylinder heads, engine rebuilds and custom fabrication & machine work. Specialist repair services for LUCAS MAGNETOS and SMITHS INSTRUMENTS became a sideline service that saw steadily growth. JB Cycle completed an award wining Featherbed TRITON in 2000.
Jim published an online guide to fixing & tuning AMAL carbs - Bushman's Carb Tuning Secrets. This has been a source of good advice for many motorcyclists judging by the constant emails of "thank you". Jim recently gave a hands on Tech Talk at the International Norton Owners Rally in Lumby which was well received.
Due to the high cost of insurance and other businesss issues, JB CYCLE RESTORATION ceased commercial operations in 2006, reverting to hobby status. We do not work on or repair other people's motorcycles.
Jim's interest in motorcycling has expanded to adventure riding and touring the far reaches of the globe. In addition to extensive touring of the West Coast of USA/Canada, recent overseas adventures include rides in BAJA, Mexico, Five Country ALPS tour in Europe (Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland & Italy), and numerous tours in NEW ZEALAND.
The Section showcases the many personal aspects of Jim's riding life - covering the early days in NZ, serious modification of a 1995 Triumph Thunderbird (Mr Jekle n Hyde), rides to Baja Mexico, European 5 Country Alps Tour, recent tours through New Zealand and the Barber Vintage Festival in Alabama.
This website is Jim's effort to highlight and pass along technical motorcycle information and skills, as well as fire in the reader the same "passion" that motorcycling has brought to Jim.
