This page showcases several of my recent rides to New Zealand. I am fortunate in that iI grew up on motorcycles in NZ and through a close circle of motorcycle friends from the Genesis Motorcycle Club, was able to absorb so much of what makes NZ a great motorcycle destination. My first encounter back in NZ after nearly 20 years away, was a ride around Auckland on a borrowed 955 Triumph Tiger - my old boss Ray Pratt, owner of Auckland Motorcycles and Powersports kindly allowed me a free day on the bike to ride with my old friend Lloyd. Read About our escpades in TWO BAD PUSSY CATS. A year later I returned again for a flying visit and managed to squeeze in THE LONG GREEN ROLLER COASTER RIDE.

Since I still have family and firends in NZ to visit and stay with, it seemed only logical that I aquire a motorcycle for transport reasons - In 2007 saw the purchase of a 2001 BMW R1150R complete with hard bags. Low mileage excellent example. This has served me well for 2 long rides so far. Recently I have also purchsed a DUCATI ST2 945 for use by my son Matt. These bikes are caretakered by my very good friend Dave Lee in Warkworth. Without Dave's help and resourcefulness, it would be dull & expensive rental bikes for me.

The ride in March 2009 was an EPIC ADVENTURE, I was accompanied by Robert Smith, moto-journalist, we gathered 6 of my firends and headed off for a North Island Adventure. Robert had an article published in CANADIAN BIKER MAGAZINE (June 2009 Issue) - I have scanned a copy here.

April 2010 saw another tour with my son Matthew (19yr old rding the Ducati ST2) and some of the usual crew from NZ. This included a taste of the top half of South Island including a memorable ride over the port hills of Christchurch to Akaroa and the famed Takaka hill from Motueka to Golden Bay. Check out the videos here: Part 1 and Part 2 (added Dec 2010)

Feb 2011 another trip is in the offering this time with 4 additional Canadians joining the group of rebrobates from NZ. This ride was a total diaster for me, having a nasty high-side in Hunua at the start of the ride, ending up in Middlemore Hospital with broken ribs and soft tissue damage. The others continued on with the ride and Robert Smith penned another article for CANADIAN BIKER magazine - scanned here
